Two men in planeThe Lowcountry Regional Airport (KRBW) in Walterboro, SC is the largest general aviation airport in South Carolina with three runways ranging in length from 5,500 feet to 6.002 feet and is located five miles east of Interstate 95. Our primary runway (5/23) has recently been resurfaced and extended to 6,002 feet along with the construction of an adjoining parallel taxiway. Eighty (80) additional acres have been secured at the end of this runway for future runway extension.

The Walterboro-Colleton County Airport Commission, together with the Colleton County Economic Alliance, is positioning the airport to attract aviation-related investments (additional hangar space areas, maintenance repair operations /MROs, tertiary air cargo, disaster logistics centers, distribution and light manufacturing, etc) seeking close proximity to Interstate 95, ports and aviation assets in neighboring Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA. i.e., two international airports, the Charleston Air Force Base, Beaufort Marine Air Base, Global Aeronautics, Gulfstream Aerospace Corp, Vought Aircraft Industries, and the recently announced $750 million Boeing Dreamliner project.

Approximately 500 acres of appropriately zoned land has been designated to accommodate on and off airport operations. One hundred-thirty (130 acre—65 net useable) has been assessed to Level III site certification, while an additional 113 airside acres have been place into a multi-county park designation which offers additional tax incentives to companies locating here. These incentives include a Job Tax Credit up to $4,500 per job created to a reduction in property tax assessments for domiciled aircraft from 10.5% to 4%. Another 250 acres is available for large scale projects which could also benefit from these and other incentives. Additionally, a portion of the airport property is included in the county’s FTZ application for the 260 acre Colleton County Commerce Center on I-95 thereby requiring only a boundary modification request should an aviation investment need a Foreign Trade Zone site status.

Finally, construction and installation of an instrument landing system (ILS), GPS at all active runways, remote communications outlet (RCO) and an  ADS-B tower are now complete.
